Supporting our Cities
As an upper tier municipality, the County of Simcoe provides a wide range of crucial public services to County residents. The cities of Barrie and Orillia, although separate politically and administratively, are geographically and economically part of the County.
The County of Simcoe actively supports communities throughout the region, including the separated cities of Barrie and Orillia, through a number of supports and services such as Paramedic Services, long term care, social services such as social housing and Ontario works and funds infrastructure, hospitals and educational institutions in both cities. In turn, cities representatives sit as members of the County’s Human Services Committee (part of Committee of the Whole) and support regional budgetary contributions to these key service and program areas.
