Midhurst/May 30, 2024 – This June, curbside Clothing and Electronic Waste Collection is back. Clothing Collection runs the weeks of June 3 (zone 1) and June 10 (zone 2), and Electronics Collection runs the weeks of June 17 (zone 1) and June 24 (zone 2).
New zones are in effect but please note that special collections fall on garbage weeks. To confirm your zone or for more information on other special collection days, download the new Simcoe County Collects app or visit our website, www.simcoe.ca/waste. Materials should be placed a minimum of 2 feet from your carts and set out at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day, regardless of the time that your regular waste is normally collected, as materials will be collected by a different truck.
Details on Clothing Collection (June 3-13):
To help reduce plastic waste, this year the County did not distribute pink clothing recycling bags. Instead, Simcoe County residents can place clothing and textiles in a clear plastic bag. To ensure collection, bags must be sealed and weigh less than 20 kgs. Items must be clean, dry and odour free. Acceptable materials include:
- Clean clothing
- Towels, linens, and pillows
- Coats and outerwear
- Hats, belts, and scarves
- Purses, backpacks, sleeping bags and luggage
- Socks, mittens, and shoes in pairs (wrap with elastic to hold together)
Collected clothing and textiles are sent to a facility for sorting/grading. Most materials are reused in Canada, and some are reused/recycled as rags or acoustic fill or sent overseas. Details on Electronics Collection (June 17-27):
Residents can recycle their old or unused electronics through a convenient E-cycling collection program. We encouraged you to place items in clear bags.
Acceptable items include:
- Computers
- Monitors
- Printers
- Televisions
- Cellular phones
- Video gaming consoles
- Small appliances (toasters, vacuums, kettles, electric mixers and coffee makers)
- Personal care items (hair dryers, electric shavers and toothbrushes)
- Cords and small corded power tools
Please delete all personal data before placing at the curb. The County is not responsible for personal information contained on computer hard drives, motherboards or other electronic devices that may potentially store information. Electronic items collected will be processed at an approved electronics recycling facility where they are sorted, and recyclable materials are sent out for reuse.
