June is Seniors Month in the County of Simcoe

Midhurst/June 4, 2024 – Warden Basil Clarke has proclaimed June 1 to 30 as Seniors Month in the County of Simcoe.

“According to the 2021 Census, 20 percent of the County’s population is over the age of 65, a number which is expected to nearly double over the next 20 years”, said Warden Basil Clarke. “This is why the County of Simcoe continues to build up regional long-term care, seniors services, age-friendly programs, and accessible housing options. This includes funding nearly 350 projects through our Age-friendly Housing Grant Program, along with investing in initiatives like affordable housing for seniors and our new Simcoe Village Campus Redevelopment.”

This year’s theme is “Working for Seniors.” In recognition of the tremendous efforts of our older adults and businesses who have helped create more accessible and welcoming age-friendly communities, residents are encouraged to nominate those deserving for an Age-Friendly Business or Individual Recognition Award. The nomination period closes June 30 and full details can be found at simcoe.ca/agefriendly.

Staff across the County’s long-term care homes and seniors service facilities will be focusing their programming on promoting independent, active, and healthy engagement activities that support seniors in living their lives to the fullest. A full list of activities can be found on our website.
