County awarded multiple grants to support seniors’ programming

Midhurst/June 23, 2022 – Warden George Cornell proclaimed June as Seniors’ Month in Simcoe County, recognizing our amazing older residents and the contributions they make across our communities. This year’s theme, “Stay Active, Connected and Safe » encourages our seniors to remain engaged, both virtually and in person.

In alignment with this theme, the County’s Long Term Care and Seniors Services staff have continued to find new and innovative programs that safely promote cognitive stimulation through individual and group activities. The County is also pleased to share that is has been awarded funding from Hydro One’s Energizing Life Community Fund Grant, and from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons Seniors Program. These grants, totalling $50,000, will be used to fund the purchase of five new interactive motion systems for use across our locations.

“We’re grateful to both Hydro One and the New Horizons for Seniors Program for their commitment to supporting the health and resilience of our communities and residents, » said Warden George Cornell. “Seniors play such an important role in our communities and we’re so proud to offer leading programs, services and supports to assist residents as their needs change. »

“Hydro One feels a deep responsibility to be present and support local organizations who are working tirelessly to energize life in their communities, » said Jay Armitage, Vice President, Marketing and Communications, Hydro One. « The loss of social programs and activities over the last few years has been especially hard for seniors. We are proud to support the County of Simcoe in breaking down barriers to help seniors stay active, connected and safe. »
