County recognizes National Volunteer Week

Midhurst/April 22, 2022 – April 24 to 30 marks National Volunteer Week in Canada. This year’s theme, Empathy in Action, affirms the strong connection between volunteerism and empathy. This profoundly human connection is at the heart of healthier individuals and stronger communities.

The County of Simcoe is grateful to our nearly 200 Simcoe Strong volunteers, who last year gave more than 5,900 hours of their time to our Long-Term Care and Seniors Services locations and Simcoe County Museum.

“In mid-2021, when we were able to cautiously and safely welcome volunteers back into our facilities, it was inspiring to see how many community members stepped forward to give their time,” said Warden George Cornell. “From having to undergo re-orientation, infection prevention and control training, and monthly education sessions, nothing was going to stand in their way from getting back into our homes to visit with and support our residents. We are truly grateful for the passion, empathy, creativity and resilience of all volunteers.”

The County encourages residents to take a moment this week to share a message of thanks through social media using the hashtags #EmpathyInAction,
#VolunteersBringHeart and #NVW2022.
