Main entrance demolition begins Aug. 25
The County of Simcoe is advising visitors to be aware of demolition taking place at the Administrative Building, 1110 Highway 26, in Midhurst, starting August 25.
The demolition of the front entrance steps will require visitors and employees to access the building through the east wing barrier free entrance. Signage is posted to direct visitors toward both, the entrance, as well as customer service.
The County of Simcoe apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks residents and visitors for their patience at this time.
The County of Simcoe is composed of sixteen member municipalities and provides crucial public services to County residents in addition to providing paramedic and social services to the separated cities of Barrie and Orillia. Visit our website at simcoe.ca for more information.

County Forests certified by Forest Stewardship Council

County forests were recently awarded Forest Stewardship Council Certification (FSC) under the Rainforest Alliance. The FSC works to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests. The certification process lasted six months and consisted of a great deal of research, visits and reviews to over 25 sites in the forest, interviews, a public open house, and an 83 page report which is now available online. There are more than 56 criteria in the rigorous auditing process, and most are based on environmental considerations. The process also considers First Nations, community benefits, and workers’ rights among others. The County was commended on its forests as a result of the forests’ size and financial stability, professional staff, and great signage and maps. Rainforest Alliance is a market-based initiative and this recent designation for the County’s forests allows Simcoe loggers more access to world, and even provincial, markets. Warden Cal Patterson, centre, and County Forester Graeme Davis, left, were on hand for the presentation.
