As approved by County Council, the County of Simcoe is currently constructing a new 50-unit affordable housing building in Bradford West Gwillimbury. This project, designed for family and seniors, comes on land generously donated to the Simcoe County Housing Corporation (SCHC) for this purpose by the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
These donated lands at 125 Simcoe Road, at the intersection of Simcoe Road and Marshview Boulevard, will create an attractive streetscape with good connectivity to transit and adjacent walking trails. The building will be within walking distance of the Town’s future civic plaza, downtown commercial amenities, elementary schools, ample green space parks, and the nearby GO Station.

The Simcoe County Housing Corporation announced that online applications for residential rentals at the Bradford West Gwillimbury affordable housing building were open as of July 2, 2024. Applications were available online and were required to be submitted at simcoe.ca/BWG-development prior to July 16, 2024. We thank everyone who applied for their interest. Successful applicants will be contacted directly by the Simcoe County Housing Corporation in the coming months.

The County of Simcoe and the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury would like to advise the public about upcoming pedestrian and vehicular impacts due to construction of the new affordable housing project in Bradford. The upcoming site works will cause pedestrian and vehicular impacts starting May 8, 2023, and are expected to last approximately three weeks. Read the news release here for more information.

The County of Simcoe has begun site work and preparation for the new affordable housing project in Bradford West Gwillimbury and is slated to begin drainage channel realignment and storm pipe installation at the end of the month. The County has begun site preparation for the new affordable housing build in Bradford West Gwillimbury, including fencing and the addition of excavation and construction materials to the site.

The County of Simcoe is hosting two virtual public information sessions on Monday, December 6, 2021 using Microsoft Teams Live 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m to share background information and to seek input and feedback about the proposed building design and site layout.

Why?
- This will assist in achieving the County's 10-Year Affordable Housing and Homelessness Prevention Strategy's (AHHPS) targets, providing affordable accommodations for those in need of housing
- A commitment has been made through the AHHPS to achieve a minimum of 2,685 new affordable housing units throughout the region by 2024
- This new low-rise building will create an additional 50 units in the area, allowing more people to have stable and affordable housing where they can continue to contribute to their community for themselves and future generations
Building Design
- MCL Architects created the preliminary design with respect to the development
- Incorporates a strong residential feel that is harmonious with the existing neighbourhood and compatible with future civic use of nearby land
- Promotes age friendly and accessible buildings that are inclusive of both families and seniors
- The four-storey structure is anchored with brick on lower floors for a residential look that is cost effective and energy efficient
