county road 17 culvert replacements
The project involves the replacement of two culverts on County Road 17 (Upper Big Chute Road), specifically Culvert 17121 located west of the Kitchen Sideroad / Silk Line intersection, and Culvert 17123 located north of the same intersection. Both culverts are corrugated steel pipes that have been in service since the 1970s, with over 50 years of use. Culvert 17121 has a span of 4.0 metres and a rise of 2.5 metres, while Culvert 17123 has a span of 3.7 metres and a rise of 2.3 metres.
Both structures exhibit significant deterioration, including corrosion and perforation along the waterline as well as deformation of the obvert. The Bridge Condition Index (BCI) is 55.7 for Culvert 17121 and 53.6 for Culvert 17123, indicating that both culverts have reached the end of their useful service life and require replacement.
Culvert 17121 will be replaced with a new precast concrete box culvert with a 3.0 metre span and 1.8 metre rise. Culvert 17123 will be replaced with a new precast concrete box culvert with a 3.6 metre span and 1.8 metre rise. In addition to the culvert replacements, road improvements will include the installation of new steel beam guiderails and a new pavement wearing surface to enhance traffic safety and driving comfort over the structures.

Timelines (subject to change as project proceeds)
