Simcoe County’s Battery Collection Week runs November 4-7

Midhurst/October 24, 2024 – The County of Simcoe is gearing up for Battery Collection Week, running from November 4 to 7, 2024. This initiative is a crucial part of our efforts to ensure the safe and environmentally friendly disposal of household batteries. We encourage all residents to participate and help make a positive impact on our environment.

Residents should use their designated battery bag that was previously mailed to their homes. If you don’t have a battery bag or need more space, you can use a large, clear Ziploc bag as well. On your designated collection day during the week of November 4-7, please place the bag of batteries on top of your cart, not inside it. This ensures that the batteries are easily seen and accessible for collection.

Acceptable items include dry cell, single-use batteries such as standard AA, AAA, C, D and 9-Volt and button batteries. Due to regulatory requirements, only undamaged, single-use and dry cell batteries are accepted for curbside collection.

Batteries that are not accepted include rechargeable battery packs (NiCad, NiMH, or Lithium Ion – typically used in laptop computers, cellular phones, etc.), car batteries, industrial batteries, and battery packs. These should be taken to a Household Hazardous Waste Depot for free, year-round.

Proper disposal of batteries prevents harmful chemicals from entering our environment and helps conserve valuable resources. By participating in Battery Collection Week, you are contributing to a cleaner, safer environment.
