Reduced load restrictions to be implemented on March 8 across County of Simcoe

Midhurst/February 28, 2025 – The County of Simcoe is implementing its reduced load restriction period beginning on March 8, 2025. During this time no commercial motor vehicle shall be operated upon a highway that is part of the County’s Road system where the weight upon an axle exceeds 5,000 kilograms.

The following County Roads are load restricted during the load restriction period:

1, 3, 5, 6, 7,9 (CR 124 to 900 metres west of Collingwood Street), 9 (750 metres east of CR 42 to CR 10), 10 (CR 90 to Wasaga Beach), 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 29, 32, 34, 40, 42 (Simcoe County Limits to CR 9), 43, 45, 46, 52, 53, 54, 56 (Highway 89 to 25th SR Essa), 58, 95 (CR 91 to Grey Road 31), 96, 127 (entrance to 2217 Line 7 north to CR22).

The following County Roads are exempt from the load restriction period:

4, 9 (900 metres west of Collingwood St to 705 metres east of CR 42), 10 (Highway 9 to CR 90), 11 (Line 13 to Line 15 – Oro-Medonte), 16, 27, 28, 42 (Stayner South Limits to CR 9), 44, 47, 49, 50, 56 (25th SR Essa to CR 90), 64, 88, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 95 (CR 124 to 150 metres north of CR 91), 124, 127 (from Kings Highway 11 to entrance of 2217 Line 7 North), 169.

Reduced load restrictions are implemented primarily to prevent road damage and to ensure the safety of drivers as we exit the winter months. As temperatures rise in the spring, roads become softer and less stable as the ground thaws and expands. Heavy vehicles can cause severe damage to these softened roads, leading to cracks, potholes, and other structural issues.

Timelines will vary annually based on road conditions and weather as per the Consolidated Traffic By-Law. Please see Simcoe County Consolidated Traffic By-Law #7098-24 for full description of axle load weight restrictions.
