Collective bargaining

Update on negotiations with CUPE 5820.00 and 5820.01

August 23, 2024:

County and CUPE Reach an Agreement

CUPE informed the County of Simcoe that the latest offer (reached August 16) has been ratified by their membership. This is good news for the communities we serve and for our employees. This means that there will be NO labour stoppage among this group of 290 employees, and regular operations will continue without impact to the public or our clients.

We are grateful to our bargaining team, CUPE 5820’s bargaining team, and our CUPE employees for working to find agreeable and fair terms for both parties that respect taxpayers’ dollars. We’d also like to thank the mediator for their invaluable assistance in helping the parties reach an agreement.

The County coordinates 11 different unionized collective agreements. We have not experienced a work stoppage in more than 20 years, while remaining responsible to our taxpayers. This successful history demonstrates our positive workplace culture, competitive employment packages and continued status as one of the region’s top employers.
