Midhurst/June 10, 2026 – Since the announcement of the expansion of organics collection for multi-residential properties in 2025, the County of Simcoe has made significant early progress in bringing the program to more residents across the region.
The voluntary program, which is rolling out in phases throughout this spring and summer, is designed to extend organics diversion services to multi-residential buildings that have not previously had access to County-provided collection.
Building on the success of a 2024 pilot program, which included 15 properties and 615 units and demonstrated strong resident participation, the County is currently moving ahead with broader implementation to help close service gaps and support waste diversion goals.
Early results from the rollout show strong momentum. In the month of May, the County’s Solid Waste Management staff onboarded 49 multi-residential properties, representing 1,959 units across Simcoe County. To support participation, staff delivered 13 on-site information sessions for residents and property managers.
Each participating unit receives a comprehensive organics starter kit, including a kitchen catcher (green bin), educational materials, compostable bags and a coupon.
Staff will continue to monitor participation and contamination rates at participating locations, while continuing to onboard additional properties as requests are received and interest grows.
