Children’s art installation unveiled at West Ridge Early Education Centre
Midhurst/November 20, 2025 – The County of Simcoe, in partnership with West Ridge Early Education Centre and Recreate Place, proudly celebrated National Child Day earlier today. The event highlighted the importance of treating all children with dignity and respect, while ensuring they have every opportunity to reach their full potential.
To mark the occasion, the three organizations unveiled a children’s art installation at West Ridge Early Education Centre. The project was made possible through collaboration between the County, West Ridge, and Recreate Place.
During the celebration, Warden Clarke presented West Ridge with an official proclamation designating November 20, 2025, as National Child Day across Simcoe County. He also introduced a new child-friendly version of the Simcoe County Children and Youth Charter, developed by the Simcoe County Coalition of Child, Youth and Family Services in 2009.
About National Child Day
National Child Day recognizes children as active participants in their own lives, communities, and society. It emphasizes that children are citizens who can and should meaningfully contribute to decisions that affect them.
The United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) on November 20, 1989. Canada ratified the convention in 1991, committing to ensure that all children are treated with dignity and respect and have every opportunity to reach their full potential. This commitment includes:
- Protecting children from harm
- Ensuring children’s basic needs are met
- Providing children opportunities to have a voice (speak out and be heard)
